In this follow up article to File your green card under EB2 and not EB3, I will be writing about the current buzz word in the Immigration World - Porting.
If you are one of those thousands who is stuck with the EB3 GC Processing dates, don’t worry. If your I140 is approved, to port your GC Process from EB2 to EB3 Category you will have to file the Labor and 140 again. The Perm (Labor) process will take up to 9 months. You can then apply for your I140 under premium processing which would take a month or two. Now the best part - you will able to use your priority date from previous I-140.With the current EB3 processing times that is an oasis in the desert of immigration.
One of my colleagues, whose green card was filed under EB3 in 2004, got his ported recently. Guess what he will be getting his green card in a month or two. If he continued under the EB3 category he would have got it sometime in 2020 unless one of those immigration miracles happen.
Get started with your porting process today. Request your employer to bear the costs. Even if you have to pay out of your pocket there is nothing worth the peace of mind and world of choices that accompany your GC.
